Teacup Gorilla

I joined Teacup Gorilla in the fall of 2017 after being a fan for several years. The band had been know for their mixture of Americana's warmth mixed with the dynamic shift and moodiness of post-rock. Often compared to The Velvet Underground, Explosions in the Sky, and early Modest Mouse, I was brought in for my ability to create texture, as well as my rhythm guitar ability. Little did they know they'd get a sometimes lead guitarist and riff creator in the process.

This was the first song I learned with the band. The spoken word part in the middle is an excerpt from a Gil Scott Heron poem.

This version was recorded at 7th Circle Music Collective in Denver Colorado in early 2018 and was filmed, recorded, and edited by my wonderful friends at 7th Circle Sessions.

"Last Bullet" was written before I joined the band and one of only 3 songs off the EP that we still play. I think my playing brings something fresh and interesting to this song that wasn't on the recording. I personally think this song sounds like The Allman Brothers or The Grateful Dead or something. It seems a little different from our normal dark theatrical post-rock, but the dark open ended lyrics help bring it all together.

This is a live, audience shot video of us performing a song called "Whiskey from Strangers, Part 2". It's part of a 20 minute long suite of music we've been recording since fall of 2019, and that the other 3 members have been working on for over 5 years. This suite, as well as most of the cd-ep the band released before I joined share a common thread of telling the take of Herman and Sam - a modern telling of the greek story of Salmacis and Hermaphroditus. The music is canon to Miriam's open source novel Riding Side Saddle

In 2015, before I joined, the band released a CD-ep entitled The Holes They Leave, and it's available on all streaming services, or you can purchase it from the band on Bandcamp
